Help in the home

We will all, at some time in our lives, need some help to stay independent, safe and well in our homes.

Some people will need just a little support such as help with cleaning, preparing a meal, or help with shopping. Others will require more support such as help with personal care (including help with washing and dressing, getting in and out of bed, help with taking medication).

There is a wide range of different types of community groups, charities and private care companies offering services to help you or the person you care for maintain their independence at home. All of the options available are shown on our main Living Independently page.

Many of the services, clubs and activities on this page and in this directory are free to join and use. However, you may be asked to contribute to the cost of running their service or providing transport, day trips or equipment like crafting supplies.

Some care providers like home care companies charge for their services according to the amount of support you need and the number of workers involved.

You can get more information about health and social care costs.

If you think you need help to pay for your care and support you should contact the Council. There's more details about how the Council works out how much you can afford to pay on their website: cost of care.
